Background of the Study

Maternal health is a critical component of public health, and effective health policies are key to improving maternal care services (Adebayo & Olayemi, 2020). In Dala LGA, Kano State, various health policies have been introduced to improve maternal care, but challenges remain in ensuring accessibility, quality, and utilization of healthcare services. This study will examine the impact of health policies on maternal care in local healthcare centers within Dala LGA.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite government efforts to improve maternal healthcare services in Dala LGA, the region still faces high maternal mortality rates, insufficient access to healthcare facilities, and inadequate quality of care. This study aims to explore the effect of health policies on maternal care, focusing on local healthcare centers in Dala LGA and identifying the challenges and opportunities for improvement.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the impact of health policies on maternal care in Dala LGA.

  2. To evaluate the accessibility and quality of maternal healthcare services in local healthcare centers in Dala LGA.

  3. To identify the challenges faced by healthcare providers and expectant mothers in accessing maternal care services.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How have health policies impacted maternal care in Dala LGA?

  2. To what extent are local healthcare centers equipped to provide adequate maternal care in Dala LGA?

  3. What challenges hinder the effective implementation of health policies related to maternal care in Dala LGA?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. Health policies have positively impacted maternal care services in Dala LGA.

  2. Local healthcare centers in Dala LGA are inadequately equipped to provide quality maternal care.

  3. Addressing the challenges faced in implementing health policies will improve maternal healthcare in Dala LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study

This study will offer valuable insights into the role of health policies in improving maternal care, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for improving healthcare delivery in Dala LGA. It will be useful for healthcare policymakers, practitioners, and local government officials.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on maternal healthcare services in local healthcare centers within Dala LGA. Limitations include challenges in obtaining accurate data on healthcare access and potential biases in reporting maternal care outcomes.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  • Maternal Care: Healthcare services aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

  • Health Policies: Government measures and strategies aimed at improving public health outcomes, including maternal health.

  • Local Healthcare Centers: Medical facilities that provide healthcare services at the community or local government level.
